Transporting a large collection of heavy, bulky belongings to a new home is a physically challenging process which could lead to you sustaining an injury. Here are two steps you can take to prevent this from happening.

Let your removalists transport the heavier items

If you want to speed up the moving process, you might be thinking about helping your hired removalists to load up the van.

Whilst this is a perfectly reasonable thing to do, it's important to be aware of your own physical limitations and to avoid carrying any larger, heavier items by yourself, as this could easily result in you straining a muscle in your back (if you attempt to pick up a particularly heavy item) or breaking a bone in your foot (if you drop the heavy object and it lands on one of your feet).

Your removalists will have the equipment (such as lifting straps and hand trucks) and the physical strength needed to transport your heavier possessions safely. As such, it is best to allow these individuals to move your furniture, gym equipment and other hefty belongings.

Don't carry too many boxes at once

In your bid to get the moving process over and done with as quickly as possible, you might feel tempted to carry multiple boxes, piled on top of one another, at once. Unfortunately, taking this approach is likely to lead you to getting hurt.

If the items you are carrying are piled so high that they obstruct your field of vision, you could end up tripping over any items that are lying on the floors of your home as you walk out of the house.

Additionally, if you need to walk down a flight of stairs and the boxes you are carrying are blocking your view, you could miss a step and fall down the stairs.

This could not only lead to you sustaining a fracture or a sprain but could also result in the items you were carrying being broken beyond repair.

If you are injured in this manner, it could take you much longer to move into your home (as you would need to have your injuries treated before you could continue with the moving process).

Given this, it is far better to take your time and carry boxes out to the moving van one by one. This approach will ensure that both you and your possessions arrive safely at your new home.
